Congratulation to Firefighter Jim Parks on his retirement from the department.  Firefighter Parks
 served the citizens of La Porte for 35 years.  We wish him all the best in his retirement.

The department would like to welcome three new firefighter.  Firefighter Randy Sheldon will be joining "C" shift, Firefighter Brett Slater will be joining "B" shift, and Firefighter Nick Reyes will be joining "C" shift.  Welcome aboard guys!

Congratulation to Firefighter Doug Major on his retirement from the department.  Firefighter Major
 served the citizens of La Porte for 24 years.  We wish him all the best in his retirement.

The La Porte Fire Department would like to thank Bob Payne for the Tribute Bench and wall hangings he donated to the department.  The bench and wall hangings will be on display at station one.

Congratulation to Firefighter Steve Smith on his retirement from the department. Firefighter Smith
served the citizens of La Porte for 27 years.  We wish him all the best in his retirement.

Jim Parks has been elected a four year term to the Board of Pension Trustees.

The retiree's dinner is scheduled for April 21, 2009 at 6:30 pm.  This years event will be held at the PRCU.  If you are off duty please attend and carouse with our retired brothers.

We would like to congratulate Scott Wilson on his recent promotion to Captain.  He will be joining C shift and will be the new Station #1 Captain.

Kevin Kanney has retired from the La Porte Fire Department after 20 years of service.  In his 20 years he has served as firefighter, captain, battalion chief, and assistant chief.  The department would like to thank Kevin for his service and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

Promotional exams will be held May 5 & 6 and May 12 & 13, 2009.  Sarah J. Smith, along with the administration of your department, has submitted the list of books used to develop the tests.  These lists have been posted on the boards at all three stations.

A new department SOG has been implemented regarding the use of reflective vests.  The new policy went into effect on November 18, 2008 and is posted on the board at all three stations.

The mayor extended her gratitude to the fire department for donating $71.61 in spare change for the La Porte County United Way.   The fire department finished second, in donations, out of all city departments.  The fire departments own Andy Snyder was the grand prize winner of a pair of Indianapolis Colts tickets.

The new Eastshore Parkway, which connects Pine Lake Avenue and McClung Road is now open.  The road, located near the new Northside Fire Station opened on Monday, November 10th, following a ribbon-cutting ceremony.  The new road will allow for much quicker response times to the first ward.
